You can't blame Corey Hanewich for feeling like her freshman season with the Stanford University softball team ended on a roller coaster ride.
The Lakewood Ranch graduate was having a stellar season for the Cardinal. The outfielder was the fourth leading hitter on the team with a .294 batting average and one of three players with a slugging percentage above .500 (.523) thanks to five homers, six doubles and two triples.
Her performance was good enough to earn Hanewich an Honorable Mention nod on the All Pac 10 team. Unfortunately her season came to a crashing halt on April 30th when she was hit by a pitch that broke her left arm. She had surgery six days later and is expected to be sideline until mid July.
The bone she broke was the ulna bone, which is the three inches up from the wrist. She had a plate installed to insure proper healing and promote quicker recovery.
