Lakewood Ranch football team excells in classroom

The Lakewood Ranch High football team compiled the highest GPA of all programs in Classes 2B through 6A in the state, according to data released by the FHSAA.

The Class 4A Mustangs had an accumulative 3.225 GPA, which bested Class 5A Tarpon Springs East Lake (3.172). The only football programs with a higher GPA according to the FHSAA were all in Class 1A led by Orlando First Academy (3.461).

The highly successful Lakewood Ranch girls cross country team, which finished second at the state Class 3A state meet, also proved its worth in the classroom compiling a team 3.601 GPA, which ranked them in ninth in their respective classification. The Mustang boys also were ninth with a 3.453 GPA.

The Bayshore High girls golf team was ranked fifth in class 2A with a 3.549 GPA; the Lakewood Ranch boys swim team was third in Class 2A (3.581) and the girls team was fourth (3.578). The Lakewood Ranch volleyball was third in 4A with a 3.587 GPA and Bayshore was 13th in 4A (3.413).

The Lakewood Ranch boys’ golf team that finished second in the Class 2A state tournament had a 3.179 GPA, which ranked the Mustangs 17th in their classification.
