Manatee County Trio Earns All-State Hoops Honors

Reggie Smalls of Southeast and Daniel Magley of Bradenton Christian were named to the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches All-State Team.

Smalls, who averaged 18.6 points and 3.9 assists per game, was named to the Class 3A team. Magley, who averaged 19.6 points and 8.6 rebounds, was selected to the Class A team. Smalls was the Bradenton Herald Player of The Year for boys’ basketball.

Magley set the school career assist record at BCS with 446 assists and finished second in scoring with 1,647 points. He is the third member of the Magley family to receive All-State honors following in the footsteps of his sister Jessica and older brother David, who also won multiple player of the year awards for Class A.

Also receiving honors was Bradenton Christian standout Maria DeKuiper, who was named to the FABC and Florida Athletic Coaches Association All-State team.

The Bradenton Herald Player of The Year for girl’s basketball, DeKuiper averaged 23.2 points and 8.9 rebounds and finished as the number two scorer and rebounder for the BCS girls program.

The Class 6A Player of The Year and consensus best player in Florida this year is Austin Rivers of state champion Winter Park. The son of Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers, the 6-4 guard has signed with Duke.
