Giovani Francois will be playing in the Maryland Class 4A state championship game Friday for his new school Henry A. Wise, which defeated Broadneck 14-7 in its semifinal last week.
The former Southeast High star transferred to Wise last month after the Manatee County School board denied his request to play for the Seminoles following a legal matter that was thrown out of court. He has made a huge impact on his new team though he has played in only three games for the Pumas (12-1).
The 6-2, 255 pound defensive lineman has been credited with 28 tackles and is tied for third on his team with five sacks. He has forced three fumbles and recovered a fumble.
Wise will return to M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore for its 7 p.m. kickoff. Last year, the Pumas lost 17-16 in the state championship game at the same field. Their opponent this time is Urbana, which rolled to a 37-6 defeated Gaithersburg 37-6 in the other 4A semifinal game.
