Bradenton Christian faces big challenge in Orlando Christian Prep

The Bradenton Christian boys basketball team will have its work cut out Saturday night in the Class A-Region 3 championship game.

BCS will face a familiar foe in three-time defending state champ Orlando Christian Prep, which defeated the Panthers 83-59 in last year’s region final in Orlando.

This year’s game is at the Panthers gym. Home court advantage is nice, but BCS will still be facing a formidable opponent. OCP is the top ranked team in Class A and ranked fifth overall (all classifications) by FloridaHoops.com.

In the Orlando Sentinel/Florida Association of Basketball Coaches rankings OCP is ranked fourth for all classifications and the Panthers (19-12) are sixth in Class A.

OCP (23-5) is led by 6-4 swingman Adonis Burbage, who was recently selected to the Florida team for the March 25th Florida vs Hardwood Classic all star game at the Amway Center in Orlando. The Warriors also have Division I prospects in 6-1 speedy point guard Terral Merritt and 6-4 junior guard Issac Cohen, a lefty who can stroke the three.

OCP is coached by former USF standout guard Reggie Kohn (see photo above), who finished his career there in 2003 and is still the program’s all-time leader in assists and 3-point field goals.
